The World Series matches the champion baseball teams of the American and National leagues in a seven-game playoff beginning each October. The games are split between the two teams' stadiums with the best overall season record receiving first home-team status. Cost to attend the game is determined by stadium location and level and position of the seat.
The 2021 World Series begins Tuesday, October 26, between the Atlanta Braves and the Houston Astros. Game 1 on Oct 26, Game 2 on Oct 27, and, if necessary, Game 6 on Nov 2 and Game 7 on Nov 3 will be played in Houston. Game 3 on Oct 29, Game 4 on Oct 30, and, if necessary, Game 5 on Oct 31 will be played in Atlanta.
Typical costs:
As of October 26, the Houston Astros official ticketing website[1] lists that "a limited number of additional seats may be available at a later date." Currently, not a single ticket was available for any game directly from the team's website.
As of October 26, all of the tickets for the Atlanta Braves are sold out; however, a limited number of tickets will become available on Oct 26 at 10AM EST on the Atlanta Braves Ticketmaster Website[2] .
For the 2021 World Series, ticket prices vary widely depending on the location. In Houston, tickets on the second-hand market StubHub start at $400 a seat, but in Atlanta, tickets start at $800 a seat.
Stadium tickets in the bleachers, standing-room areas or high level sections cost about $200-$400 per person, per game, depending on location. Season ticket holders typically have first priority to purchase individual World Series tickets. The first team to win four ends the series, so games between well-matched teams that go to game 7 draw more interest and higher resale prices. On the second-hand market, outfield deck and standing room tickets are running $400-$500 in Houston and $800-$1,000 in Atlanta.
Seats closer to the field typically cost about $400-$700 when purchased directly from MLB. On StubHub, dugout and behind-the-plate tickets are running $1,000-$2,000 in Houston and $4,000-$8,000 a seat in Atlanta.
Suites, often used for corporate events, typically sit up above the field and cost about $800-$900 per person with a 20-person minimum when purchased in advance, depending on location and amenities from open bars to buffets.
All tickets include admission to the game. In some stadiums, a club level allows no host access to wait staff so the game won't be missed to run for a snack or drink.
Additional costs:
Food and beverage prices vary by city[3] . Domestic beer typically costs about $4-$10 and a hot dog about $1.50-$6.50. Many stadiums offer a wide variety of food, including clam chowder in a bread bowl to sushi.
Parking fees will also vary based on the location. On StubHub, parking passes are selling for $50-$100+.
Discounts:
If purchasing from a second-hand auction market like StubHub, prices can fluctuate based on the exact timing. Tickets often hit their peak price soon after a team qualifies. It's a risky strategy, but if there are a lot of tickets available on StubHub as the game time approaches, ticket prices may drop soon before the game. On the other hand, if very few tickets are available on second-hand markets, prices may stay firm.
Shopping for attending the world series:
World Series tickets may be purchased through MLB[4] and Stub Hub[5] . Take care when buying tickets from an unknown source. Each year, 100-250 fraudulent tickets are discovered on game days
Check with the team's ticket office to see if any tickets are available. Some teams offer World Series ticket options to those who purchase a season pass for the following season.
