A cruise offers an opportunity to travel to multiple destinations while only unpacking once, and wraps up the cost of lodging and meals into one prepaid package. Cost is determined by the destination, cruise line, sailing date and length of trip.
Typical costs:
Alaska cruises may be taken one-way for maximum onshore time or round trip. One-way costs about $430-$6,000, depending on sailing date, cruise line and stateroom choice. Seven-day roundtrip cruises cost $580-$2,660 per person, double occupancy in an interior room, depending on cruise line, stateroom choice and sailing date. Upgraded rooms cost about $15,000-$33,000, depending on sailing date and cruise line. Trips on larger passenger ships typically cost less, however due to local geographic and tourism restrictions offer only on-deck views of the frozen continent without shore excursions. Smaller ships carrying about 100 passengers are typically small enough to navigate the narrow ice passages.

Ocean view cabins are priced $210-$1,500, balcony rooms $325-$1,580 and suites $1,450-$4,800. Additional costs:
Alcohol policies change by ship. Typically, the smaller ships, like those traveling to Antarctica, will include beer and wine in the ticket price -- excluding fine wines, liquor or champagne. Otherwise, expect to pay about $5-$7 per beer, $6-$11 for wine and $4-$10 for cocktails. A bar bill will be delivered to the stateroom on the last evening with a 15% gratuity included.
Tipping may be prepaid at a slight discount. Some cruise lines automatically bill the passenger's account for a set tip amount during the cruise, either daily or on the last day. Otherwise, tipping envelopes are either left in the stateroom during the last evening or may be picked up at the purser's desk. Expect to pay about $10-$12 per person, per day.
Shore excursions vary by ship and destination from island nature tours to snorkeling ($30-$35), golf ($80-$250), whale watching ($70-$150) or swimming with dolphins($80-$250).
